St.Josaphat's Church's statue, The Dead Jesus, was in need of a complete makeover. It was coated with a high gloss and the garments and stone like base were of similar colors.

In the restoration the statue was given a whole new color scheme and details were highlighted.

St.Josaphat's beloved crucifix needed a thorough restoration. Arms and loincloth were broken and had to be attached. After extensive repairs a decorative polychroming [paintng with colors] with a realist focus was carefully applied by Timothy Englert.

Crucifix Restoration [below]

Im not with the pretty Jesus school of crucifixes, where He looks like He just came from the spa, Englert said. I thought about torture victims to convey suffering. That is basically what a crucifix is for, mediating on the suffering of Jesus. I thought of my audience for this religious icon, and as an artist, I had a responsibility to convey this heavy emotion in an artistic manner. It has been one of the most interesting jobs I have had yet, and one I am most proud of. My clients were enthralled with my results, so it was a very rewarding project for me.
